New Studio in the Making...

February 20, 2012  •  2 Comments

Within the next month, I will be gradually moving into a new house! Oh I can't express how excited I really am!! Problem is... I'm really having a hard time deciding on colors for the studio. I would like to be able to use the walls for pictures but then I also don't want to be so over the top that it doesn't look nice either. I don't want to be tired of it 3 months later. So what do I do? I seriously need YOUR HELP!!!

At first I was thinking I should have bright colors. Probably about 80% of my photography is with kids in the studio and it is always fun to have some bright colors in the background. On the other hand... those kids all belong to amazing families so when I take family pictures, it isn't the best to have this super bright yellow wall in the background. Make sense?? So this is what I was starting out with... a few colors of choice--

And then I thought well maybe I should go with light pastel colors, although that really isn't my style. Who are we kidding... I have had a dark red livingroom, the darkest brown you can buy livingroom, purple rooms, green rooms... I LOVE COLOR!!!

And then I came across this color palette and sort of fell in love. I could do both... a brighter orange and a lighter green for family/intimate photos. Light green is always a nice balancing color. What do you think??

Please PLEASE Please... Leave me some comments on your thoughts!!

I LOVE the idea of color, but that also may limit your customers as to what they can do with the photos. Thinking along the lines of having them matted/framed for a wall in their homes. If they don't have those colors in their houses, they may not be able to use them. Color may also limit what they can wear in their photos.

If you have color on the walls, will that induce a reflective tone in the shots? Would an orange wall give the subjects skin an orange-y tone?

Wondering if basic or neutral colors would be better and then just invest in some colored backdrops? Or, choose one bright color for one wall and select a complimentary neutral color for the other three? Sorry, feel like I just rained on a parade. Just some initial thoughts that crossed my mind.

Great job on the blog Kelc!
